Our footprint in CO2 consumption — an attempt to describe sustainability in our IT processes.

 

Power consumption

Since November 2019 our operational data and our customers' data are hosted on cloud servers that we rent from Netcup. A statement on green energy and energy efficiency can be found on the Netcup website.

The building in which our office is located was equipped with a photovoltaic system in 2014. The system produces approximately 25,000 kWh per year, which corresponds to the avoidance of approximately 17.5 tonnes of CO2 annually.

There are no large servers in our office. Our internal server runs on an energy-efficient fanless mini-computer.

For our work (administering your systems) we do not use any graphical programmes that require powerful processors. This means we consume less energy. The most demanding thing to come along with the pandemic were video conferences. Nevertheless, we manage to communicate with customers and partners even though our laptops, computers and monitors are slowly being depreciated. Our integrated Asterisk phone system and headsets at every workstation handle telephony. Fluorescent tubes and ceiling lamps with LED bulbs ensure we can work even in the dark. Computers are switched off every day after work, and heating is turned down accordingly. Only our server stays in standby mode.

Business administration

For years we have been working towards going completely paperless. Invoices arrive almost exclusively by email or are available on partners' portals; we send our invoices electronically as soon as the customer agrees. Accounting processes are now fully electronic.

Unimportant documents are printed on recycled paper; for handwritten notes only paper already printed on one side is used. Old paper and packaging are taken to the paper recycling container; a specialist company is commissioned for the environmentally safe destruction of old documents.

 

Small notes

Almost the entire team uses public transport, bicycles or walks for daily commuting between home and the office.

There is no capsule coffee machine here.

The printer prints in black and white only.

Shelves and some tables have been here since 1998, when the company was founded.
